They apparently took a train to England then boarded the SS Laurentian for Halifax, Nova Scotia in Liverpool, England on March 2, 1899, arrivng in Halifax on March 13, 1899. This ship was purported to be rather unstable and even Johann Conrad Luft, who was in the Russian Navy for seven years got sick. |

 | Interview with "Aunt Lizzie" In 1978 Vernon Luft conducted an oral interview with Elizabeth Catherine Luft Kaschube. The interview was later transcribed by Jerry Kraft (great nephew to Aunt Lizzie) and further edited by Roger Luft for accuracy of names and places. |
